Autumn

It is well past the equinox now, and in places like Rawalpindi, one can already feel the air resting more coolly and calmly under the trees and over their stretching shadows. Just before sundown, I noticed three pairs of doves on a tree and the power lines; then, a pleasantly warm draught reached me and I knew summer was gone. This is the mere beginning of dynamic meteorological perfection – the loveliest seven months of the year which evoke the very opposite of northern chilliness. It is the right occasion for venturing on long walks, revaluating life, and experiencing gratitude.
